Tiler As in ancient Rome

Tile, slab and mosaic layers cover floors, walls and facades with a wide variety of materials.

What are the tasks?

Tilers are all-rounders when it comes to working with different materials. They work with concrete, ceramics, glass and mosaics as well as with natural stone. They advise the customer on the choice of material and sketch a plan, which determines the exact arrangement of the tiles. As a tiler, you also learn how to handle different tools that are needed to cut and process the tiles.

What are the requirements?

Training as a tiler takes 3 years. A school leaving certificate is not mandatory, but a secondary school leaving certificate is often expected. Further requirements for the profession as a tiler are resilience, diligence and organisational skills. Those who work on building sites are often exposed to different weather conditions and noise or dust should not harm a tiler. Teamwork is just as important as independence. Precise work, a sense of aesthetics and creativity are further prerequisites.
